Unlink Salesforce product and NetSuite item

Using the Salesforce NetSuite IA - we have successfully synced our products between the two platforms. In cases where we needed to make bigger changes to product/item fields, we inactivate the products in NetSuite and re-push them from Salesforce. To do this, we have removed the NS ID from the product record in SF. By doing so, the link was broken between the two records and on a manual run of the sync, a new product would be created. 

However, in a few cases (ie: 2 out of the 80 total) we cannot seem to unlink the products despite the above steps. When we re-run the manual sync after removing the NS ID - it still manages to be linked to the previous inactivated item in NS. I cannot figure out how to remove the link between these two.

Looking for input/advice.

    Is there anything different for those 2 products which didn't unlink?
