Assigning Errors

Is there a way to assign errors based on flow? For example, if I have a flow and I always want “Dave” to troubleshoot the errors that may occur in that flow, is there a way to assign Dave to all errors that may occur for that flow (kind of like a global flow setting)?

  • Hi Dave Guderian

Currently, there doesn’t appear to be a way to automatically assign all errors for a specific flow to a particular user. However, a practical workaround is for the responsible person to set up notifications for that flow in the flow settings. This ensures they’re alerted whenever an error occurs, allowing them to promptly address and troubleshoot the issue. Since it’s the same person receiving the notifications, they’re likely familiar with the context of the errors.

However there is something else which does not fully align but worth mentioning this is regarding errors with the same retry or trace key: These can be automatically assigned to the same user based on your flow settings. While this doesn’t fully align with your request, I thought it might still be helpful to mention:

  • Dave Guderian I just published a new flow to the marketplace that automates assigning errors based on the flow and error message. It's a simple yet powerful tool that asks for three inputs:

    1. Flow: Which flow the errors belong to.
    2. Error Message: A specific error message to filter by (optional).
    3. Assignee: The user to assign the error to.

    How It Works:

    • Use the mapping feature to define error assignments for each flow.
    • Each error can only be assigned to one user.
    • If you create multiple criteria for a single flow, ensure there’s no overlap.
    • If there’s both a specific error message map and a general map for the same flow:
      • Errors matching the specific message will follow that map.
      • All other errors will follow the general map.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

    Limitations:

    1. If there are tons of errors for one bubble, probably over 5,000ish, this may fail for hitting 5 MB page size limit (if you have that many errors, then assigning errors is probably useless anyways).
    2. This is not real-time, so you would just schedule this flow to run however often you need. It will only pull errors that are not currently assigned.
    3. If you have more than 1000 flows, the drop down won't work for you. You could modify the form script to just be a text field where you put the flowId.

  • Thanks Tyler Lamparter . I am hoping to get this installed and play around with it this week! Thanks again for creating this and will provide any feedback once I have an opportunity to download it and use it!
