Understand AI model lifecycle labels

AI providers update and retire their models over time. The lifecycle labels shown on AI models that are approaching retirement and flags models that are no longer supported. Use these labels to decide when to switch your AI agents and guardrails to a supported model, so their runs aren't interrupted. This article is for anyone who builds or maintains AI agents and guardrails.

You must select a supported model before the existing model retires.

Model lifecycle stages

Every model in AI model selection is at one of four lifecycle stages. The stage decides whether you can select the model and whether AI agents and guardrails that use it can run.

Lifecycle stage Description
Supported The model is fully supported and has no lifecycle label. You can select and use it normally.
Migration recommended The provider plans to retire the model, but the retirement date isn't close. You can keep using it while you plan a switch to a newer model.
Retiring on date The model retires on the date shown, and runs that use it fail after that date. The Model attention panel shows this stage as Retiring soon.
Retired The model is no longer supported, and it's removed from AI model selection. AI agents and guardrails that use it can't run until you select a supported model.

Note: Retired models aren't available when you create AI agents or guardrails. If an existing AI agent or guardrail uses a retired model, AI model selection keeps the model selected and shows an error message that says the model is no longer supported. You can't save or run the AI agent or guardrail until you select a supported model.

Identify models that need attention

Celigo flags models that are approaching retirement or have already retired in four places:

  • AI model selection - Lifecycle labels appear next to models that are approaching retirement. If an existing AI agent or guardrail uses a retired model, the selected model shows an error message.
  • AI agents - A yellow warning icon appears next to an agent whose model is approaching retirement. A red error icon means the agent's model has retired. Hover over the icon to see the details.
  • Flow builder - A warning icon appears on each AI agent or guardrail step whose model needs attention. Hover over the icon to see the model's status and the recommended replacement.
  • Integration tiles - A warning icon appears on an integration tile on Home when a flow in the integration uses a model that needs attention. The icon opens the Model attention panel.

Review affected models in an integration

The Model attention panel lists the models that need attention across all flows in one integration, with their retirement dates and recommended replacements.

  1. Go to Home.
  2. On the integration tile, select the warning icon. The Model attention panel opens.
  3. Review the details for each model:
    • Model - The AI model that a flow in the integration uses.
    • Status - Migration recommended or Retiring soon.
    • Recommended - The suggested replacement model.
    • Date - The model's retirement date.
  4. Optional: To show models with one status only, filter the Status column.

Switch to a supported AI model

Switch an AI agent or guardrail to a supported model when its model is approaching retirement or has retired. The recommended replacement in the hover details or in the Model attention panel is a good starting point.

Note: Switching to a different model may reset settings that the new model doesn't support. Review your configuration before you save.

  1. Go to AI studio, and then select AI agents or Guardrails.
  2. Select the AI agent or guardrail to open it. For a guardrail, select the Custom prompt check.
  3. In AI model selection, select a supported model.
  4. Select AI model advanced settings, and review the settings for the new model.
  5. In the Preview pane, select Test to confirm that the output matches what you expect.
  6. Select Save.
