Set up a connection to Hootsuite

Hootsuite is a popular social media management platform that allows users to schedule posts, engage with audiences, and analyze social media performance across multiple platforms from a single dashboard.

Set up a connection

After you start the connection, configure it in the Create connection panel and complete all of the required * authentication settings: 

Setting Instructions
Name your connection * Enter a clear and distinguishable name.
Throughout integrator.io imports and exports, you will have the option to choose this new connection. A unique identifier will prove helpful later when selecting it from a list of the connections in your account.
API type *

Choose your Hootsuite account API type:

  • Platform: Get message, comment, media, member, social profile, team, and organization details
  • Inbox: Get real-time metrics, CRM, and user presence details
  • Medial library: Get media and status details
  • Sparkcentral: Get real-time metrics, proactive, and virtual agent details

API type: Platform

OAuth 2.0
client *

Select the OAuth 2.0 client that stores the client ID and client secret provided to you by Hootsuite.

To add an OAuth 2.0 client and configure your credentials, click the plus (+) button. Click the edit ( ) button to modify a selected OAuth 2.0 client. For more information, see Create an OAuth 2.0 iClient resource

API type: Inbox

Organization 
ID *

Enter your Hootsuite organization ID.

Client ID *

Enter your Hootsuite client ID.

Client secret *

Enter your Hootsuite client secret.
Multiple layers of protection, including AES 256 encryption, are in place to keep your client secret safe. When editing this connection, you must re-enter this value each time; it is stored only when the connection is saved and never displayed as text.

API type: Media library

OAuth 2.0
client *

Select the OAuth 2.0 client that stores the client ID and client secret provided to you by Hootsuite.

To add an OAuth 2.0 client and configure your credentials, click the plus (+) button. Click the edit ( ) button to modify a selected OAuth 2.0 client. For more information, see Create an OAuth 2.0 iClient resource

Valid domain names *

Enter the unique domain name for the OAuth URL. Use comma-separated values to enter multiple URLs. For example, if your URL is

https://hootsuite.prd.test.com, then test.com is the valid domain name.

Domain *

Enter your Hootsuite account domain. For example, if your Hootsuite account URL is https://xyz.hootsuite.com, then xyz.hootsuite.com is the valid domain name.

API type: Sparkcentral

Region *

Select your Hootsuite account region (either US or EU).

OAuth 2.0
client *

Select the OAuth 2.0 client that stores the client ID and client secret provided to you by Hootsuite.

Scopes *

Scopes are OAuth 2.0 permissions that Hootsuite defines to limit access to your account.

Tip: This connector documentation describes only the settings shown for the Simple view. For the corresponding HTTP settings, see token and OAuth 2.0 universal connector documentation for the respective API types.

  1. Sign in to your Hootsuite developer portal. 
  2. Navigate to My apps.  For more information on how to create an app, see Authentication.
  3. Select the required app and click Edit.
  4. Copy the Client ID.
  5. Copy the Client secret.
  1. Sign in to your Hootsuite developer portal. 
  2. Navigate to My profile > Manage accounts and teams.
  3. Click your organization Teams.
  4. Copy the Organization ID in the id query parameter in your browser URL. For more information, see Retrieve the organization ID

  1. Click Scope.
  2. To access all of the scopes in the API, click the » button.
        – or –
    Check the scopes you want to add and click the > button.
  3. Click Save.
