Promote tools with ILM

Integration lifecycle management (ILM) promotes tools between environments the same way it promotes flows: a snapshot, pull, or revert of an integration includes every tool the integration's flows and agents reference, with the tool's own dependencies. This article explains what ILM includes for tools, how promotion validates them, which tool fields you can ignore during a pull, and what a pull, revert, or clone produces at the destination. It's for account administrators and anyone with a multi-environment account. For the ILM procedures themselves, see Integration Lifecycle Management (ILM) overview.

What ILM includes for a tool

A snapshot, pull, or revert that includes a tool also includes, automatically:

  • Every nested tool it calls.
  • Every lookup, import, script, and lookup cache any of them uses.
  • The connection mappings for each connection the tree uses.

References between these resources are preserved as they are — nothing is re-bound at the destination. If a flow references a tool that lives in a different integration, the tool is created in the target integration alongside the flow.

Validation before promotion

Before a pull or revert runs, ILM checks that every connection the tools use has a connection mapping at the destination and that every tool dependency is present. A missing mapping or dependency is reported as an error and blocks the promotion until you fix it. See Troubleshoot tools.

Fields you can ignore during a pull

When you compare changes during a pull, you can choose to ignore some tool fields so the destination keeps its own values.

Resource Fields you can ignore
Tool Name, description
Tool sub-steps (lookups, imports) The export and import fields the pull comparison supports for those resource types
Tool import step Import step fields
Tool input and tool output None — these can't be ignored, because callers depend on the schemas

What a pull, revert, or clone produces

Operation Result at the destination
Pull or revert within the same environment A new tool
Pull or revert across environments Updates the tool if it was promoted before; otherwise creates it
Clone Always a new tool — see Clone a tool

Download and upload is an alternative promotion path for accounts without ILM — see Download and upload a tool.
